At German Bike, each bike is reviewed individually before we describe it as suitable for public road use in Germany. Because electric bikes can vary by motor power, assisted speed, configuration, and documentation, we do not make one blanket claim for every model. Instead, each product page will show a clear road-use label so you know what applies before you buy.
German Road Use
Bikes marked German Road Use are models that meet standard pedelec-style limits for Germany. These bikes are generally designed with motor assistance up to 25 km/h and motor power up to 250W. In most cases, this type of bike is treated like a regular bicycle and does not require registration, a driving license, or an insurance plate.
Registration or Insurance Required
Bikes marked Registration or Insurance Required may be faster, more powerful, or configured differently from a standard pedelec. These models may require additional documentation, registration, insurance, or approval before they can be used on public roads in Germany. Please review the product page carefully before riding this type of bike on public roads.
Off-Road Use Only
Bikes marked Off-Road Use Only are not currently listed with the road-use documentation needed for public road riding in Germany. These bikes are intended for private land, off-road riding, or other non-public-road use unless the required documentation and approval are obtained separately.
How to Check a Bike Before You Buy
Look for the road-use label on each product page. We review each model individually and label it based on the information available for that specific bike. If a bike has a higher motor output, a higher assisted speed, or missing road-use documentation, we will label that clearly so you can make an informed decision.
