E-Bike Safety Guidelines

Safe e-bike ownership starts with the correct product, charger, setup and riding environment. Follow the product manual and current local rules. Stop using a bike, battery or charger that shows signs of damage or abnormal behavior.

Last reviewed: August 11, 2026. This page provides general safety information and does not replace the manufacturer manual, a product recall, professional inspection or local law.

Before the first ride

  • Complete all required assembly and adjustments using the product manual.
  • Confirm that the front wheel, handlebars, stem, saddle, pedals and battery are correctly secured.
  • Test both brakes at low speed and confirm tires are inflated within the stated range.
  • Check that cables, wiring and the battery mount are not pinched, loose or damaged.
  • Use a properly fitted helmet appropriate to the riding activity and local requirements.

Battery and charger safety

  • Use only the charger supplied for the product or a replacement explicitly approved for that exact battery system.
  • Do not assume a charger is safe because the plug fits. “Universal” micromobility chargers can be electrically incompatible.
  • Follow the manufacturer's charging instructions, remain present while charging and do not charge while sleeping.
  • Charge in a dry, ventilated area away from exits, combustible material and extreme heat.
  • Do not use a battery or charger that is swollen, cracked, leaking, unusually hot, corroded, water-damaged, emitting an odor, making unusual sounds or showing exposed wiring.
  • Do not open, rebuild or modify a lithium-ion battery, and do not use repurposed cells or unqualified repair services.
  • Unplug the charger when charging is complete, as directed by the manufacturer.

Storage and transport

  • Store the battery in the temperature and charge range stated by the manufacturer.
  • Keep keys and metal objects away from exposed terminals.
  • Do not leave a battery in prolonged direct sun, a hot vehicle or freezing conditions outside the manufacturer's limits.
  • Use a transport method rated for the full e-bike weight. Remove the battery for transport only when the manufacturer permits it and protect the contacts.

Riding safely

  • Learn assist levels and throttle behavior in a low-risk area before entering traffic or trails.
  • Brake earlier than on a lighter bicycle and reduce speed before turns, pedestrians and uncertain surfaces.
  • Use lights and reflective equipment when visibility is reduced.
  • Do not exceed the documented payload, rack or tire limits.
  • Check the product-specific road-use status and the current rules for the road, path or trail.

After impact, water exposure or unusual behavior

Stop using the product and isolate it from combustible material when safe to do so. Do not charge a battery that has been crushed, punctured, submerged, involved in a crash or exposed to significant water ingress until the manufacturer or a qualified service provider has assessed it.

Battery disposal

Do not place lithium-ion batteries in household trash or ordinary curbside recycling. Use an authorized battery recycler or hazardous-waste collection service and follow local instructions, especially for damaged or recalled batteries.

Safety alerts and recalls
